Kitesurfing is one of the newest sailing sports, with its origins dating back to around 1996 when Manu Bertin used a kite instead of a windsurfing sail. Although relatively new, many of the technical aspects are still being developed and evolving. While kiters learn from experience, the fundamentals of this discipline are well codified, and practicing it to the best of one's ability is essential.

1. Responsibility and Patience:

Becoming a good kiter requires a strong sense of responsibility, both for oneself and others, along with patience and determination. Kitesurfing is learned gradually, without rushing. It’s important to remember that many water sports, including kitesurfing, should never be practiced alone.

2. Nature-Immersed Adventure:

Kitesurfing takes place entirely in nature, and is one of the most adrenaline-filled sailing sports. The action involves gliding over water using a board, powered by a large kite driven by wind. The board, similar to a wakeboard, is symmetrical and called a 'twin tip'.

3. Combining Surfing and Windsurfing:

Kitesurfing blends the techniques of surfing and windsurfing. It offers the tranquility of sailing with thrilling moments when tackling challenging sessions, like riding waves or sailing in strong winds.

4. Different Styles and Disciplines:

The most popular kitesurfing style is freestyle, where the board and kite are used to jump high and perform breathtaking spins and tricks. It’s a sport that allows kiters to explore different styles and push their limits.

At Abakiting, we offer courses for all levels, from beginners to advanced kiters. We teach how to rig and launch the kite from the boat, with dinghy assistance if needed. Downwind sessions are available for experienced kiters, and we also offer equipment rentals for those ready to practice independently.
